Please, someone post the link to the CAupdater - I only have the heinoganda 1.6 cmd-based updater. Would like to have both. Thank you. -
My Browser Builds (Part 5)
modnar replied to roytam1's topic in Browsers working on Older NT-Family OSes
Sweet! I used to run NT4 because it's tiny even compared to NT5 for OpenTTD server. Oh how I dreamt of such a project way back when I ran Win95 and NT4 dual-boot, but then I switched to Win98, WinMe and finally Win2000... -

VK in Serpent 52.9 crashes the browser with mozjs.dll stated as problematic and ozon.ru is just milling about the bot check page (I was shown a message to stop the unresponsive script, so I did). -

I saw I had to use Supermium for websites that are "too new" for Serpent/newmoon (avif support, etc.). -

@covo by the way, what if you right-click on the setting and choose "Reset"? What are your other "gfx" (in about:config search for gfx) settings? @adata I'm using Serpent 52.9 and I too only get spinning wheel when clicking on thumbnail on the forum link you posted and also on techpowerup forum for that matter. -

Since last 2 releases of Serpent 52.9 on TechPowerUp forum attached images do not show, when I click on / maximize them, e.g. GPU-Z screenshot attachment. Is there any remedy for this? Probably just have to wait for the upstream to adopt all the "modern" additions to the FF code... -
You could also perhaps use speedguide.net 's TCPOptimizer...

Since Sandboxie wasn't always stable on my machine (startup error "!", couldn't load service), I changed FSFilter Infrastructure GroupOrderList setting back to 04 (factory setting). Messy fltmgr.

Default XP filesystem means factory settings for file system in registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem - disable8dot3=0, win31=0, win95t=1. XP disk driver structure is so elderly and rigid none of my tweaks really work without hiccups, so I changed everything to original settings that were from windowsupdate since SP0; so FSFilter infrastructure to 04 and filter group to 0b. There's simply no other solution for XP if no better fltmgr is available and no the ones from Win2003 don't count. It is also good from time to time to empty Windows/Prefetch directory. GOL_FSFilter_Infrastructure_04_XP_USP4.reg GOL_Filter_0b_XP_USP4.reg P.S.: I know I've advertised filter_0b before, back then I was using that XP-inappropriate disable-last-access-update tweak and the whole disk stack could not work right.

Windows 7-10 doesn't always make that "System reserved" partition. When there is WinXP installed on E: (second partition on primary disk, secondary disk is D:) and you install Win "7" or "10" on C: or D: (partitions already existing and 4K-aligned) you'll get a normal installation without any hidden partitions created.

In Serpent 52.9 wildberries don't work (checking indefinitely), vk works/shows (didn't log in), instagram works/shows (didn't log in). -

Maybe you're just too quick for the hardware - sometimes it takes a bit to show restore session button/option in "History". It's now faster than ever here after I balanced the FSFilter sub-system: I extend my dumpster fire remark to all Windows. -

You still haven't used the latest version? Restore session has never been broken here (that I would notice) and I do use it from time to time. Sometimes it just take a bit longer to load/show that button/option at the bottom of the start page or in "History" menu. --------------------------- As for that CSS nesting for those icons - I do read the news and if it is about dumpster fire that is Windows NT 6.x, so be it. -

While reading The Register about new Win11 "feature", I went to its Microsoft page and there (scroll down) linked_in, facebook and other socialist media icons are super-sized in 2025-03-27 version of Serpent 52.9. -
@Multibooter Please also delete the "Group" (file system) reg. file for Sbiedrv - it is not needed when XP filesystem is factory (no NTFSLastAccessUpdate tweak). I sent you PM about this...

I would advise you to only use Spybot_Search_n_destroy_1.6.2 additions to hosts file and maybe a few specific others for particular programs that you add yourself. -

After a long time with Serpent (still my main browser) I finally installed Supermium (R7, ungoogled) due to its AVIF support and it works well and if you install "simple grey" theme, you get nice rounded tabs and good for eyes.

@basilisk-dev Might I bother you to implement AVIF image decompression into basilisk? Whilst it's google's nasty preference over the better JPEG-XL it's still useful to have all the sites working... -

Thanks for that; I would still like @roytam1 to clarify the situation. Palemoon is said to be supporting JPEG-XL instead (I read on their page)? It would be mighty fine if both were supported though. -

Is there any option AVIF format would be added to Serpent - apparently it's there to lower the size of images (better compression). -

videocardz.com also crashes sometimes - usually the first time, then it works (with Serpent version 2025-01-10). No biggie.
